Another day, another way to contort your body in the name of beauty.
There’s a brand-new posing trend blowing up on Instagram and fortunately, this one is slightly less problematic than last day’s “upside down bikini” trend. It’s called “Barbie feet” and like the name suggests, it involves positioning your feet like the beloved children’s toy.
From feather eyebrows to divorce selfies to nude yoga, you never know what might be the next trend on Instagram. Well a couple new ones have just formed (I meant literary within a day), and according to some people, there are a lot of benefits to them.
The move has been a staple of models for years as a sneaky way to elongate the leg, but the term was officially coined by fashion blog Who What Wear after the likes of Kourtney Kardashian, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner made a habit of it on the 'Gram.
To nail the look, you'll need to balance on one foot while the other is poised on it tiptoe like you’re wearing a pair of invisible high heels. Et voilà – Amazonian limbs.
If even that sounds like a broken nose waiting to happen, the pose also works when sitting - ideally, on the edge of a private yacht sailing through Greece.
I must admit though heels do make you feel sexier… as long as you can walk in them. They make your legs look longer and leaner and give you a natural strut. The dream is to feel bad and bougie even when you’re not wearing them. Barbie feet does exactly that.
Now the Barbie feet pose has been named and shamed, we guarantee you won’t be able to un-see it.
It follows in the fine tradition of posing epidemics - sorry, “trends” - embraced by Instagram stars in the name of likes.
The hall of fame includes ‘fingermouthing’, which involves dangling one’s fingers seductively in front of one’s pouting mouth, ostensibly to draw attention to the lips.
Then came ‘Bambi pose’ - that is, sitting with one’s legs folded sweetly underneath like a baby deer. Even animated fawns can be trend-setters, you know.
However, these all pale in comparison to the ‘plandid’, in which the subject poses oh-so candidly as if a professional photographer simply stumbled upon them gazing pensively into a sunset.
Guess your stock-standard selfie just won’t cut the mustard any more.
Because I don’t know what crazy trend social media will come up with next.
